Artist and teacher with a range of classes in East London
These classes are suitable for anyone who has an interest in depicting the human figure within, broadly speaking, traditional techniques and approaches in drawing and painting. At the same time, students are encouraged to be creative and exploratory with their materials and imagery.
As the tutor, I will address each student’s needs and interests on an individual basis, whether they are total beginners or fully experienced. The classes do not involve any diplomas or outside examination authorities, but are instead wholly concerned with each student’s personal creativity and development within the subject. All this sounds very serious, but I aim for the classes to be fun too.
Each class starts with about half an hour of quick poses (1 minute to 10 minutes) before we move into the major (long) pose for the remaining hour and a half (with a 15 minute break for refreshments and chat). Models are usually booked for a block of 3 or 4 weeks, and the major pose remains the same for the duration, thus allowing plenty of time for painting, pastel work or more in-depth drawing. Of course, it’s also possible to attend two, or all three of the Friday classes, and several members of our group choose to do so.
Classes run from 2 – 4 pm, 4:30 – 6:30 pm and 7 -9 pm. Unfortunately we have to skip the last Friday of each month as the hall is unavailable – please see the calendar to check dates. Students are welcome to join at any time during the year.
Tea, coffee and other refreshments will be available.
Perhaps you’re interested, but unsure whether these classes are right for you? New students are welcome to come along for a free ‘taster’ session before enrolling.
These classes are held at St. Andrew’s Church, a ten-minute walk from Leytonstone tube station, with nearby bus stops on James Lane and Whipps Cross Road.
